Frederick, MD.- The Goldey-Beacom Women's Cross Country team had it's best performance of the year with its first 2014 team trophy after missing one at the home Fall Cross Country Classic hosted by GBC in Newport, DE last weekend by only a few points.
The Lightning found their stride in the last regular season race of the year. Freshman Crystal McCollum (North East H.S./Elkton, Md.) became the fastest 6k runner in GBC history, posting a time of 24:44.6. McCollum broke the record set by Elizabeth Williams of 24:45.49.
The Lightning also had three other personal records set for the season at the Hood Invitational.
Jordan Dodson (Perryville H.S./Port Deposit, Md.) improved by 45 seconds and placed 3rd overall.
Ariel Richardson (St. George's Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) improved by 1:45 to place 16th overall and
Samia Blassengale (Delcastle H.S./Newark, Del.) had the most improved time by two minutes.
Other runners finishing for the Lightning were
Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) and
Leshae Lee (Joppatowne H.S./Edgewood, Md.).
