NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore guard
Marcus Porter (Howard H.S./Wilmington, Del.) of the Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team has been named as an honorable mention selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards for the week ending Feb. 3, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the second time this season Porter has been recognized by the CACC after earning honorable mention notice for the weekly awards on Dec. 17. As a freshman last year, he earned CACC Rookie of the Week honors three times.
In leading the Lightning to a split of a pair of CACC contests last week, Porter averaged 20.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. He scored 20 points, including the game-winning field goal with 1.2 seconds remaining in overtime, and added eight rebounds in the Lightning's 76-74 victory over the University of the Sciences on Tuesday night. The win allowed the Lightning to end a seven-game losing streak.
Porter, who has scored in double figures in 21 consecutive games, also tallied a team-high 20 points while grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds against Felician in an 84-77 setback on Saturday, marking his sixth “double double” of the season.
A starter in 18 of 20 games this season, Porter is the Lightning's leading scorer and ranks seventh in the CACC with a 16.4 average. In addition, he ranks 10th in the CACC by averaging 7.0 rebounds per game.
Led by Porter, the Lightning will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 6 when they host Lincoln University at the Joseph West Jones College Center at 7 p.m.
