Countdown to Tip-Off: Post

Lightning to Host Eagles in CACC Quarterfinal at 2 p.m.

Akilah Sewell and the Lightning will try for their 10th win in the last 11 games on Saturday.
WILMINGTON, Del. - As the Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team prepares to face Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinal game on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., GBCAthletics.com gets fans prepared for tip-off with this countdown ...
10 - Saturday's contest will mark the 10th all-time CACC Tournament game for the Lightning in their Division II history. After falling in last year's CACC quarterfinal match-up against Concordia, the Lightning are 5-4 all-time in the CACC Tournament.

9 - The Lightning posted nine blocks in their regular season loss against No. 6 Holy Family last Saturday, marking the fourth time this season they have posted at least nine blocks in a game. They are ranked second in the CACC by averaging 5.0 blocked shots per game.

8 - Entering Saturday's game, the Lightning have won eight of the last nine games against the Eagles, including the last six in a row. Goldey-Beacom leads the all-time series against Post by a 10-6 margin.

7 - In the 2010-11 CACC Tournament, senior forward Akilah Sewell posted seven blocked shots in the Lightning's three games, including five blocks against Bloomfield in the semifinals. The five blocks were tied for the most in a CACC Tournament game in conference history until last season, but is tied for the third-highest total.

6 - Senior forward Irene Hudson has scored in double figures in six consecutive games, averaging 15.8 points per outing. She enters the CACC Tournament as the Lightning's leading scorer with a 12.8 average.

5 - Senior guard Devonne Richardson is one of five players in the CACC this season to record 100 or more assists. With four assists in the Lightning's regular season finale against Holy Family, Richardson broke her own single-season assist record that she set last year and enters Saturday's game with 121 assists.

4 - The Lightning will be making their fourth straight appearance in the CACC Tournament.

3 - The Lightning were one of three teams to have three players named to the All-CACC teams, which were released on Wednesday evening. Senior guard Devonne Richardson earned first team notice while senior forward Irene Hudson received second team honors for the second straight year. In addition, senior guard Jacinda Jones was selected as an honorable mention pick by the CACC's head coaches.

2 - Saturday's game will feature two of the top three-point shooters in the CACC this season. Goldey-Beacom senior guard Jacinda Jones ranks second in the CACC with a .393 three-point field goal percentage while junior guard Aubrey Latham of Post follows in third place by connecting on 38.1 per cent of her attempts from beyond the arc.

1 - With a win over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon, the Lightning will win 20 games in a season for the first time in program history. It would also be the first time that a Goldey-Beacom basketball team (men's or women's) has won 20 games in a single season.
