Richardson Highlights Women's Basketball All-CACC Selections

Senior Guard Named to First Team; Two Others Earned All-Conference Notice

NEW HAVEN, Conn.
– A trio of outstanding seniors from Goldey-Beacom College, including senior guard Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.), senior forward Irene Hudson (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse, N.Y.) and senior guard Jacinda Jones (Concord H.S./Claymont, Del.), have been named to the 2012-13 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball teams, it has been announced by the CACC.

Richardson, who earned All-CACC notice for the third time in her career, was named to the first team while Hudson received second team notice for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, Jones was recognized as an honorable mention selection in a vote of the league's head coaches.

A starter in 24 of 26 games this season, Richardson is the Lightning's second-leading scorer with an 11.8 average, which ranks 16th in the CACC. In addition, she leads the team and ranks fourth in the CACC by averaging 9.2 rebounds per game while her 121 assists are the most by any Goldey-Beacom player in school history and ranks second in the CACC.

Richardson, who earned second team All-CACC notice as a junior, earned CACC Player of the Week honors three times as a senior and was an honorable mention selection for the award twice. She leads the Lightning with eight “double double” efforts this season and became the first player in school history to record a “triple double” when she scored 14 points with 11 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists in the Lightning's 68-45 victory over Post on Jan. 26.

Richardson scored a season-high 24 points in the Lightning's win over Chestnut Hill on Dec. 19, making 7 of 12 shots from the floor and 9 of 11 free throw attempts. She also tallied 22 points with 13 rebounds in a victory at Wilmington University on Dec. 10.

The fifth-leading scorer in school history with 1,271 career points, Richardson holds the school records for career rebounds (1,085), assists (399), steals (218), career free throws made (411) and free throw attempts (637). She is also the only active player in NCAA Division II with 1,000 or more career rebounds.

The Lightning's leading scorer with a 12.8 average this season, Hudson has started 26 of 28 games this season. She ranks 12th in the CACC in scoring while her .491 field goal percentage ranks third in the CACC. The Lightning's second-leading rebounder, she also ranks 21st in the CACC by averaging 6.6 rebounds per game.

A three-time honorable mention selection for the CACC's Player of the Week award, Hudson has scored in double figures in 20 of her last 23 games, including 13 of the last 14 contests. She has posted 20 or more points in a game three times, including a season-high 24 points against LIU Post on Nov. 25. In addition, she scored 21 points in the Lightning's 61-60 victory over Dominican on Feb. 16 and had 20 points against Philadelphia University on Feb. 19.

Hudson, who has tallied five “double double” efforts this season, is the fourth-leading scorer in school history with 1,367 career points. One of three players to record at least 500 made field goals in her career, she ranks fourth in school history with a .456 career field goal percentage. She is also fifth on the Lightning's all-time list with 700 career rebounds.

An All-CACC selection for the third time in her career, Jones has overcome a knee injury that sidelined her last year to play in 25 games as a sixth-year senior this season. A starter in 20 of 25 outings, Jones is the Lightning's third-leading scorer with a 9.3 average and ranks second in the CACC with a .393 three-point field goal percentage. With 57 made three-point field goals in 25 games, she has broken the Goldey-Beacom single-season record and ranks sixth in the CACC.

Jones scored a season-high 22 points in the Lightning's tough 47-43 loss against 14th-ranked Holy Family on Jan. 10 at the Campus Center while contributing a pair of 21-point efforts against Kutztown on Nov. 12 and at Philadelphia University on Jan. 23. She also scored 18 points in the Lightning's loss against defending NCAA Division II champion Shaw on Dec. 28 at the Jones Center.

The third-leading scorer in Goldey-Beacom women's basketball history with 1,410 career points, Jones is the Lightning's all-time leader with 191 career made three-point field goals and a .340 career three-point field goal percentage. She also ranks fourth in school history with 180 career steals, 315 career made free throws and 382 career free throw attempts.

Jones also earned second team All-CACC notice during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.  

After posting a 19-9 record during the regular season, which included a school-record nine-game win streak, the Lightning will open play in the CACC Women's Basketball Championship by hosting Post University in a quarterfinal game on Saturday, Mar. 2 at the Joseph West Jones College Center at 2 p.m.
