Hudson Receives CACC Honorable Mention Weekly Accolades

Senior Forward Averaged 17.0 Points and 8.0 Rebounds Per Game Last Week



NEW HAVEN, Conn.
– Senior forward Irene Hudson (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse, N.Y.) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as an honorable mention selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball weekly awards for the week ending Feb. 24, it has been announced by CACC officials.

It is the second time this season Hudson has received honorable mention recognition from the CACC. She also earned the award on Jan. 21 after leading the Lightning to a victory over Chestnut Hill.

In leading the Lightning to a split of their last two regular season games, Hudson averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 55.0 per cent from the field. She also contributed eight assists with two blocks and one steal.

Hudson, who has scored in double figures in six consecutive games, tallied a game-high 20 points against Philadelphia University in the Lightning's 68-57 victory at the Joseph West Jones College Center last Tuesday evening. She made seven of nine shots from the floor and six of seven free throws while adding eight rebounds with a career-high six assists.

In the Lightning's loss against No. 6 Holy Family on Saturday afternoon, the Lightning co-captain tallied 14 points, including a six-for-eight performance from the free throw line, while grabbing eight rebounds with two blocked shots.

A starter in 26 of 28 games this season, Hudson is the Lightning's leading scorer with a 12.8 average, which ranks 12th in the CACC. In addition, she ranks second on the team with a 6.6 rebounding average while her .491 field goal percentage ranks third in the CACC.

Led by Hudson, the Lightning will begin their quest at a CACC championship on Saturday, Mar. 2 when they host Post University in a quarterfinal game at the Jones Center at 2 p.m. The Lightning earned a 68-45 victory over the Eagles in the regular season, marking Goldey-Beacom's sixth straight victory in the series.
