NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman guard
Jasmyne Lewis (Rancocas Valley H.S./Mount Holly, N.J.) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as the recipient of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week award for the week ending Dec. 15, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the first time Lewis has been recognized by the CACC this season. In addition, she is the first Goldey-Beacom player to be selected as the CACC Rookie of the Week since
Devonne Richardson received the honor on Mar. 1, 2010.
In leading the Lightning against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents last week, Lewis averaged 13.5 points per game while shooting 68.8 per cent from the field. She also contributed 5.5 rebounds per game with two assists and three steals.
After scoring 12 points in a 73-64 loss against No. 24 Adelphi on Wednesday evening, Lewis tallied a season-high 15 points in the Lightning's 82-66 setback against No. 23 Shaw on Saturday afternoon. She made six of nine shots from the floor and converted three of four free throw attempts.
A starter in all 10 games for Coach
Bethann Burke, Lewis is the Lightning's fourth-leading scorer with a 7.2 average while grabbing 4.8 rebounds per outing.
Now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the CACC, the Lightning will return home to face Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday, Dec. 18 in the first game of a conference doubleheader at 6 p.m.
