NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman guard
Donte McGill (Mont Clare Academy/Newark, Del.) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as the recipient of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week award for the week ending Dec. 15, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the first time McGill has been named as the CACC Rookie of the Week this season.
Playing in front of a near-capacity crowd at the Gallagher Center and a national television audience, McGill scored a season-high 21 points in the Lightning's 85-77 setback against Philadelphia University on Saturday afternoon. He made 7 of 14 shots from the floor and six of seven free throws in the loss.
The Lightning's third-leading scorer with an 11.6 average, McGill has scored 16.0 points per game in his last five outings while shooting 26-for-58 (.448) from the field. In the first start of his college career against Concordia on Dec. 7, he tallied 19 points after making 6 of 11 field goal attempts along with seven of eight free throws.
Led by McGill, the Lightning will return to the Joseph West Jones College Center on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest. It will be the second game of a conference doubleheader and the opening tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
