NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior forward
Alexandra Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as an honorable mention selection on the 2013 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer team, it has been announced by CACC officials.
In addition, the Lightning were named as the recipient of the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award in a vote of the conference's head coaches.
A starter in 13 of 14 games this season, Smith was the Lightning's leading scorer with 15 points after tallying six goals with three assists. With 15 points, she is tied for eighth in the CACC while her six goals are tied for ninth in the CACC.
After scoring her first goal of the season in the Lightning's 2-1 loss at Wilmington University on Sept. 25, Smith led Goldey-Beacom to a 5-2 victory over Lincoln on Oct. 3 after scoring a goal with two assists.
In the Lightning's 3-2 setback against Bloomfield on Oct. 19, Smith scored a goal with an assist. However, she had her best match of the season in the Lightning's win over Concordia when she scored all three goals in a 3-0 win. It marked the third "hat trick" of her college career.
A three-year starter for Coach
John Cappiello, Smith ranks fifth in school history with 50 career points. She has scored 21 goals, which is the fourth-highest total in school history, and contributed eight assists.
It is the second time Smith has earned a spot on the All-CACC team after earning first team recognition as a freshman two years ago.
