NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior forward
Alexandra Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) of the Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team has been named as an honor roll selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards for the week ending Oct. 27, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the first time Smith has been recognized by the CACC this season. In addition, it is the third weekly distinction of her college career. She was named as the CACC Player of the Week once as a freshman in addition to being named to the weekly honor roll once during the 2011 season.
In leading the Lightning to a 3-0 win over Concordia College on Saturday, Smith tallied the third "hat trick" of her college career as Goldey-Beacom earned its first conference victory of the season. Alexa Boyer (Hempfield H.S./East Petersburg, Pa.) with 11:34 left in the opening stanza for a 2-0 advantage.
Smith completed the "hat trick" in the 56th minute with an unassisted marker after controlling the ball in the middle of the penalty area.
The Lightning's leading scorer this season with six goals and three assists, Smith is tied for sixth in the CACC with 15 points. She has also moved into fourth place on the Lightning's all-time list with 21 career goals while her 50 career points are good for fifth place in school history.
Led by Smith, the Lightning will finish their 2013 season on Tuesday, Oct. 29 by traveling to Chestnut Hill College for a 4 p.m. match against the Griffins.
