NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior forward
Irene Hudson (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse, N.Y.) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as an honorable mention selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball weekly awards for the week ending Jan. 20, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the first time this season Hudson has received honorable mention recognition from the CACC.
In leading the Lightning to a 47-41 victory over CACC South Division opponent Chestnut Hill on Tuesday evening, Hudson recorded the 10th “double double” of her college career with 12 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. She made four of five shots from the floor and converted all four of her free throw attempts.
In addition, Hudson recorded a career-high five steals as the Lightning allowed a season-low 41 points en route to their seventh straight victory over the Griffins.
A starter in 17 of 19 games this season, Hudson is the Lightning's second-leading scorer with an 11.8 average and also ranks second on the team by averaging 5.9 rebounds per outing. She also ranks third in the CACC with a .480 field goal percentage.
After her 12-point performance against the Griffins, Hudson enters this week's games as the fourth-leading scorer in Goldey-Beacom women's basketball history with 1,233 career points. In addition, she ranks fifth in school history with 628 career rebounds.
Led by Hudson, the Lightning have won 8 of their last 11 games and will resume their schedule on Wednesday evening when they travel to Philadelphia University for a CACC South Division match-up against the Rams in the Gallagher Center at 6 p.m.
