CACC Women's Basketball Weekly Release: Jan. 2, 2013
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior guard
Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.) of the Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team has been named as an honorable mention selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards for the week ending Jan. 1, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the fourth time this season Richardson has been recognized by the CACC. After earning CACC Player of the Week honors on Nov. 12, she also garnered a CACC Player of the Week recognition on Dec. 10 after leading the Lightning to wins over Caldwell and Georgian Court.
In addition, she received honorable mention notice after guiding the Lightning to a Dec. 10 victory at Wilmington University.
During the Lightning's two games during the holiday break, Richardson averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as Goldey-Beacom split its two games. In the Lightning's 66-52 victory over Chestnut Hill on Dec. 19, Richardson scored a season-high 24 points and added nine rebounds as Goldey-Beacom defeated the Griffins for the seventh straight time.
Meanwhile, Richardson contributed 10 points with six rebounds in the Lightning's 82-69 loss against 18th-ranked Shaw on Dec. 28.
The only player to start all 15 games for the Lightning this season, Richardson is the eighth-leading scorer in the CACC with a 13.9 average and leads the CACC with 96 made free throws. In addition, she ranks fourth in the CACC by averaging 9.9 rebounds per game and needs just seven rebounds to become the second player in school history to record 1,000 career rebounds.
Led by Richardson, the Lightning will open the 2013 calendar year on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they travel to Bloomfield for a 1 p.m. CACC game against the Deacons. Currently 8-7 on the season, the Lightning are 5-1 in the CACC and will be trying to earn their sixth straight conference victory, which would tie a school record.
