Sophomore Earns Honorable Mention Notice After Reaching ITA Semifinals



CACC Women's Tennis Weekly Report: Sept. 26, 2012

NEW HAVEN, Conn.
– Sophomore Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as an honorable mention selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards for the week ending Sept. 24, it has been announced by CACC officials.

It is the first time this season Puentes Robinson has been recognized by the CACC after earning the conference's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards last season. 

After winning three matches in the 'A' Singles draw, Puentes Robinson dropped a tough match in the semifinals at the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II East Regional Championships on Monday afternoon, falling to sophomore Sara Burinato (Barcelona, Spain) of New York Institute of Technology by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

The third seed in the 'A' Singles draw, Puentes Robinson defeated senior Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) of Chestnut Hill College in the second round with a 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 victory before defeating Goldey-Beacom senior Blanca Sancho (Zaragoza, Spain) in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals.

Playing in her third match of the tournament, Puentes Robinson defeated University of the District of Columbia junior Jessica Nunez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) by a 6-4, 6-1 score to reach the semifinals.

In addition to her success in the 'A' Singles draw, Puentes Robinson teamed up with Sancho to reach the quarterfinals in the 'A' Doubles draw.

Now 9-2 in singles action this season, Puentes Robinson also posted a straight-set victory at number one singles in the Lightning's 6-3 victory over Southern New Hampshire on Friday morning.

The Lightning, who improved to 6-1 this season after earning a 9-0 victory over Holy Family on Tuesday afternoon, will continue their busy week on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Georgian Court for a 3:30 p.m. match against the Lions.
