Volleyball Announces 2012 Schedule

Lightning to Play 12 Home Matches at Jones Center

WILMINGTON, Del.
– The Goldey-Beacom College women's volleyball team will open its 2012 season on Friday, August 31 by competing at the University of the District of Columbia Tournament, it has been announced by Coach Rich Bowers.

The Lightning will begin its 30-match regular season schedule by playing Virginia State in the first match of the tournament at 9 a.m. before facing the host Redbirds at 1 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Lightning will face Bowie State and Elizabeth City State.

After a road match at Lincoln University on Sept. 5, the Lightning will open a four-match homestand by hosting the University of the Sciences in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener at 7 p.m. During the homestand, the Lightning will also play against UMass-Lowell, Bowie State and Georgian Court.

On Sept. 13, the Lightning starts a six-match road trip by traveling to Bowie State for a second match against the Bulldogs. The road trip will also feature a pair of matches against Southern New Hampshire and Mercy College on Sept. 15 along with CACC matches at Chestnut Hill, Felician and Holy Family.

Goldey-Beacom returns to the Jones Center on Sept. 29 for a CACC match against Nyack before welcoming Philadelphia University for a 7 p.m. match on Oct. 3.

Following a pair of road matches at the University of the Sciences and Wilmington University, the Lightning will host Chestnut Hill to begin a three-match homestand on Oct. 11. In addition, the Lightning will face Caldwell College in its annual Homecoming match on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. before hosting Holy Family on Oct. 17.

The Lightning will play back-to-back road matches at Georgian Court and Dominican on Oct. 19 and 20, respectively, before returning home for matches against Wilmington (Oct. 23) and Lincoln (Oct. 25).

After visiting Bloomfield and Philadelphia to end the month of October, the Lightning will celebrate Senior Day on Nov. 2 against Post at the Jones Center at 6 p.m. before ending the regular season at Concordia on Nov. 3.

The CACC Championship will be held on Nov. 7, 9 and 10.

In addition to the regular season schedule, the Lightning will also have a pair of home scrimmages on Aug. 23 against Immaculata and Cecil College at the Jones Center.

The Lightning finished the 2011 season with a 14-16 record, including a 7-12 mark in the CACC.
