CACC Women's Basketball Weekly Report (Dec. 17, 2012)
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior guard
Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.) of the Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team has been named as an honorable mention selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards for the week ending Dec. 16, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the third time this season Richardson has been recognized by the CACC. After earning CACC Player of the Week honors on Nov. 12, she also garnered a CACC Player of the Week recognition last week after leading the Lightning to wins over Caldwell and Georgian Court.
In two games last week, Richardson averaged 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as the Lightning split a pair of contests. On Monday night, she made 6 of 10 shots from the field in addition to seven of eight free throw attempts en route to a season-high 22 points in the Lightning's 84-53 victory over Wilmington.
Richardson also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the win over the Wildcats, marking her sixth straight game with at least 10 rebounds.
In addition, Richardson tallied 10 points with eight rebounds and three assists in a 60-52 loss at Molloy on Wednesday evening.
The eighth-leading scorer in the CACC with a 13.4 average, Richardson is the only Goldey-Beacom player to start every game this season. She also ranks fourth in the CACC by averaging 10.2 rebounds per game while her .738 free throw percentage also ranks 14th in the CACC.
A four-year starter for the Lightning, Richardson is the seventh-leading scorer in school history with 1,138 career points and needs just 22 rebounds to become the second player in school history to record 1,000 career rebounds. In addition, she is the school's all-time leader with 327 career assists while her 195 career steals rank third on the Lightning's all-time list.
Now 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the CACC, Richardson and the Lightning will resume their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 19 when they visit Chestnut Hill College for a 12 p.m. game against the Griffins.
