CACC Men's Basketball Weekly Report (Dec. 17, 2012)
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore guard
Marcus Porter (Howard H.S./Wilmington, Del.) of the Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team has been named as an honorable mention selection for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards for the week ending Dec. 16, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the first time this season Porter has been recognized by the CACC. As a freshman last year, he earned CACC Rookie of the Week notice three times.
In leading the Lightning to a 1-1 record last week, Porter averaged 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. He also shot 45.5 per cent from the field and also made six of nine free throw attempts.
Porter recorded his second “double double” of the season against Wilmington University last Monday, scoring a season-high 24 points while adding a season-high 12 rebounds.
On Sunday afternoon, Porter led the Lightning to a 70-69 victory over Washington Adventist on Sunday by making one of two free throws with 2.2 seconds remaining to cap a 15-point performance. He also added six rebounds and a career-high three blocks.
The 10th-leading scorer in the CACC with a 15.6 average, Porter has scored at least 10 points in all 12 games this season. He is also one of two Goldey-Beacom players to start every game this year.
Currently 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the CACC, Porter and the Lightning will play their final game of the 2012 calendar year on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Chestnut Hill College for a 2 p.m. CACC game against the Griffins.
