Devonne Richardson Honored as CACC Player of the Week

Senior Led Lightning to Back-to-Back Wins to Open Season

2012-13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Release: Nov. 12, 2012

NEW HAVEN, Conn.
– Senior guard Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.) of the Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team has been named as the recipient of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week award for the week ending Nov. 11, it has been announced by CACC officials.

It is the second time Richardson has been honored as the CACC Player of the Week in her career. She earned the award on Jan. 30 of last year after leading the Lightning to three wins over Wilmington, Philadelphia University and Post.

“Devonne has worked so hard on her game and mentality during the off-season,” Goldey-Beacom Coach Jen Carleton said. “She wants the ball in her hands, but also wants to create for her teammates. She sets the tone for us on both ends of the floor with her tenacity and fight. I think this early award is just the beginning of what you will see from Devonne.”

In leading the Lightning to a pair of victories at the ECC/CACC Challenge, Richardson averaged 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. After opening the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds in the Lightning's victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday night, the senior co-captain contributed 17 points with 9 rebounds in the team's 70-63 triumph over the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday.

After the season-opening victories, Richardson needs just two points to become the seventh player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

Led by Richardson, the Lightning have opened the season with back-to-back wins for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
