Lightning Sophomore Honored as Player of the Year for 2nd Straight Season

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
– Sophomore Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as the 2012-13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, it was announced at the CACC's annual Awards Banquet held at Chestnut Hill College on Friday evening.

In addition, junior Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain) earned first team All-CACC honors while senior Blanca Sancho (Zaragoza, Spain) earned second team All-CACC notice.

Honored as the CACC Player of the Year for the second straight season, Puentes Robinson led the Lightning to an 11-2 record, including a 7-1 mark in the CACC, and the number two seed for the CACC Championship. As the Lightning's number one singles player, Robinson has posted a 14-2 record and went undefeated in CACC matches with a 7-0 record.

In addition, she reached the semifinals of the 'A' Singles draw at the ITA Division II East Regional Championships in September.

As a doubles player, Puentes Robinson has earned an 11-4 record this season, including a 6-0 mark at number one doubles with Sancho.

Puentes Robinson, who was honored as the ITA East Region Rookie of the Year last season, has posted a 26-5 career singles record and an 18-11 career mark in doubles matches. With 26 career singles victories, she ranks fifth in school history entering the CACC Championship.

Meanwhile, Cabanillas Moreno has played a vital role in the Lightning's success after joining the program this season. As the Lightning's number two singles player, she has posted an 11-3 record, including a 10-2 mark in dual match play. She has also played at number two doubles for most of the season and has a 12-3 overall record.

Honored as a member of the All-CACC  teams for the second straight year, Sancho has posted an 11-4 singles record along with a 10-2 doubles mark. As the Lightning's number three singles player, she has posted a 9-3 record in dual matches. Entering the CACC Championship, she has won 7 of her last 10 matches, including the last three in a row.

As a doubles player, she has a 10-2 record this season, including a 6-0 mark at number one doubles with Puentes Robinson in dual matches.

The Lightning's team captain this year, Sancho is tied for third in school history with 37 career singles victories while her 38 doubles wins are good for second on the Lightning's all-time list. In addition, her .623 doubles winning percentage ranks seventh in school history.

The Lightning, who have won 10 or more matches for the fourth time in school history, will attempt to win their first CACC title this weekend. Goldey-Beacom will face Chestnut Hill on Saturday, Oct. 20 in the second semifinal at the Chestnut Hill College Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
