CACC Women's Soccer Weekly Report: Oct. 1, 2012
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior forward
Danielle Semenza (Hazleton Area H.S./Hazle Township, Pa.) and freshman forward
Tiffany Kelly (Parsippany H.S./Parsippany, N.J.) of Goldey-Beacom College have been named as the recipients of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards for the week ending Sept. 30, respectively, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the first time either player has been honored by the CACC in their careers.
Semenza and Kelly led the Lightning to a pair of victories over Washington Adventist and Concordia last week, combining to score all five of the team's goals. Semenza tallied three goals with an assist while Kelly added two goals.
In the Lightning's 3-0 win over Washington Adventist, Semenza posted the first multi-goal game of her college career with two goals, including the game-winning marker. After giving Goldey-Beacom a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute with her second goal of the season, Semenza added her second goal of the match just over six minutes into the second half.
Semenza also tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 70th minute against Concordia on Saturday, which gave Goldey-Beacom a 2-0 lead. She also posted an assist on Kelly's goal in the ninth minute that gave the Lightning a 1-0 advantage.
Meanwhile, Kelly scored a goal in each of the Lightning's wins last week. In addition to her goal in the win over Concordia, she also tallied a goal with 7:35 left in the first half that gave Goldey-Beacom a 2-0 edge.
Semenza is the Lightning's leading scorer with four goals and an assist while Kelly ranks second on the team with three goals. All three of Kelly's goals have come in the last four matches.
Led by Semenza and Kelly, the Lightning will travel to Lincoln University (Pa.) on Wednesday, Oct. 3 for a 5 p.m. non-conference match to start a quick two-match road trip.
