BALDWIN, N.Y. – The Goldey-Beacom College women’s tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep in a non-league duel match against Molloy College in the 2010 season opener on Thurs. afternoon at Baldwin Park.
Head coach Joe Kissel used all three of his freshman in the starting lineup, and all three came away victorious. Marie-Louise Klein had a tough outing, but won her match in two sets, and Laura Cure and Gabriela Chaves both won at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
Sophomore Blanca Sancho, an All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference honorable mention selection in 2009, played at the No. 1 spot and earned a hard-fought victory after coming back from down a set.
Second-Team All-CACC selection in 2009, junior Marina Sales won her match at No. 3, and sophomore Melanie Bonomo won her match at No. 4.
The Lightning also won all three doubles matches to secure the shutout victory.
