WYOMING, Del. – Michael Tobiason Jr. (’06), Steve Cutler (’07) and senior Wes Hood of the Goldey-Beacom College men’s golf team competed in the Delaware State Golf Association Open Championship on Tues., Aug. 3 at Wild Quail Country Club.
Tobiason, a Wilmington, Del. native who turned professional upon graduation from GBC in May of 2006, took third place with a score of 206 (66-70-70). He was just two strokes back of the tournament champion, Eric Onesi and one stroke behind second-place finisher Chris Gray. Cutler (Kennett Square, Pa.) was just one stroke behind Tobiason with a 207 and tied Chris Krueger for fourth place overall.
Tobiason and Cutler led the GBC golf team to unprecedented heights during both of their careers at the school. They both led the Lightning to the school’s first-ever NCAA Regional Championship in the Spring 2006 and two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championships in 2004 and 2005.
The two tied for first place at the 2006 CACC tournament and helped GBC place second as a team before going on to win the Northeast Regional Tournament. Prior to that, Tobiason had won the title outright the past three seasons.
Cutler was the runner-up at the CACC Tournament his senior season in 2007 and led the Lightning to another second-place finish that season.
Meanwhile, Hood participated in the tournament as an amateur and placed 11th in that category with a 218 (73-73-72).
Hood recently completed his third season on the GBC golf team. He led the Lightning to a third-place finish at the CACC Tournament and helped them qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament for the fifth time in the last six years.
