PIKE CREEK, Del. – Twins Daniela and Luciana Pereira of the Goldey-Beacom College women’s tennis team were named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America District 2 All-Academic Team it was announced on May 20.
Both natives of Sao Paula, Brazil, the Pereira sisters have each earned 4.0 grade-point averages in Business Administration while also enjoying success on the tennis court. Luciana, the team’s No. 5 singles player, was 15-3 on the season in singles play while Daniela, the team’s No. 6 singes player was 12-3. The two of them made up the Lightning’s No. 3 doubles team where they went 7-4 while playing together and each went 9-4 in doubles play overall.
GBC, in just the fourth season of the program’s existence, finished the 2009-10 season with a record of 13-5 while reaching the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference finals in the Fall and the NCAA East Regional Tournament in the Spring.
Daniela and Luciana, both juniors at GBC, were both also recently honored by the college with the Kiwanis A. Raymond Jackson Award. This award is presented to a junior who has demonstrated financial need with a strong commitment to community service and an equally strong commitment to his or her academic program.
Both of the twins also earned spots on the CACC Fall All-Academic Team announced in January.
