EASTON, Mass. - Last month, the Goldey-Beacom College women’s tennis team earned the young program’s first ever berth in the NCAA Regional Tournament as a No. 5 seed. The team travelled to Easton, Mass. where they were defeated 5-0 by No. 4 seed and host Stonehill College. Junior Luciana Pereira, the team’s No. 5 singles player kept a log of events from the team’s trip.
May 5
6:30a.m. - We are leaving GBC. Coach asks if everybody had everything...shoes, racquets and such.
10:00a.m. - Everybody is sleeping in the bus.
12:45p.m. - We arrived at Stonehill.
1:30p.m. - We started our "private" practice. We are just allowed 55 min. on court.
2:25p.m. - We were done with practice. We saw the Stonehill team…they looked good. We could not watch them practice though because it was private.
2:45p.m. - We are in Dicks Sports. Marina [Sales] needs to have her racquet restrung. No! We are not going inside with Coach [Kissel] and Chris Morgan. We have to stay on the bus =(
3:30p.m. - We checked in to the hotel.
5:00p.m. - We left the hotel to have dinner. We went to Bertucci's, which was really good, then we had dessert at Cold Stone...so good =)
After dinner we hung out for a little, while Coach and Chris went to pick up Marina's racquet. There was a Sports Authority there and of course everybody wanted to go.
Inside Sports Authority, Dani [Pereira] asks "Lu, did you see any Phillies stuff?" And I replied, "Dani we are in Boston!!!"
8:40p.m. - We are back at the hotel...we are going to the pool!!!
10:00p.m. - Time to sleep, we have to get ready for the game.
May 6
9:00a.m. - Marina figured out that she forgot her skirt. However we were lucky to have an extra pair of shorts.
9:30a.m. - Breakfast in the hotel and time for a lot of pictures!!!
10:45a.m. - We met in the lobby to head to Stonehill. We wanted to watch the match between Holy Family and Concordia.
1:00p.m. - We started to warm-up
2:00p.m. - Time to play doubles…
We lost all doubles matches. Now, Stonehill just need two more points to win. But we will not give up, we will work hard.
4:30p.m. - We lost =( I feel really upset. I feel I played my worst match ever. But as Coach said, it is time to move on. We all had a wonderful season, and everybody will work hard for next year. GO GBC!!!
