INDIANAPOLIS – The Goldey-Beacom College women’s tennis team, in just the program’s fifth year, has earned a berth in the NCAA East Regional Tournament, it was announced yesterday by the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Committee.
The NCAA championships consist of a 16-team single elimination tournament. Each of the following eight regions will conduct two preliminary-round tournaments: Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West. The selection of teams for the championships is based on prescribed criteria listed in the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships Handbook and approved by the NCAA Division II Championships Committee.
The Lightning (13-4) will be competing in the East #1 bracket, hosted by Stonehill College. They will square off against the host Skyhawks (17-3) on May 6 at 2 p.m. The other match in that bracket features two other Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members in Concordia (N.Y.) (15-1) and Holy Family (13-7).
The 16 preliminary-round tournaments will be conducted May 6-7, 7-8 or 6-8 with the winner of each preliminary-round tournament advancing to the finals in Altamonte Springs, Florida, hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College, May 12-15.
