NEWARK, Del. – Freshman Devon Ripley finished second individually in a field of 80 golfers, helping the host Goldey-Beacom College golf team to a tie for second-place at the GBC Spring Invitational at Deerfield Golf Club on a rainy Mon. afternoon.
The tournament consisted of just one 18-hole round of golf because the course was deemed unplayable on Tues. afternoon. St. Thomas Aquinas College took first place with an overall team score of 300 on the 6,323-yard, par-70 course.
GBC and Wilmington followed with scores of 303 as the two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rivals tied for second-place. American International College and West Chester tied for fourth place with scores of 305, and UMass-Lowell placed sixth at 313.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Chris Fitzpatrick led the field with an even-par (70). The Lightning had three golfers finish in the top-15 individually: Ripley (2nd, 72) and freshmen Erik Tammsalu (T-6th, 75) and Michael Coppa, Jr. (T-15th, 76).
Senior Matt Quigley finished T-31st with a score of 79, junior Wes Hood shot an 80 and placed T-34th. Freshmen Dan Langston (82, T-48th) and Justin Armstrong (83, T-56th) and junior John Marstellar 85, T-66th), rounded out the scoring for GBC.
The Lightning are back in action on Sunday, Apr. 4 when they go to compete in the West Chester Invitational.
