BERLIN, Md. – The Goldey-Beacom College golf team posted a 609 (300, 309) team score this weekend to finish in fifth place out of nine teams at the St. Thomas Aquinas College Golf Invitational at Rum Pointe Golf Course.
Wilmington University, the No. 1 team in the East Region, edged the host St. Thomas Aquinas for first place with a weekend score of 569. STAC was just one stroke behind at 570. Central Connecticut (597) placed third, followed by Dowling (605), and GBC (609) to round out the top five. Shepherd (611) was sixth followed by Nyack (622), Holy Family (625) and Dominican (647).
Juniors Erik Tammsalu and Wes Hood led the way for the Lightning with respective scores of 148 and 151. Both shot 72’s in the first round and then Tammsalu shot a 76 and Hood a 79 in the second round. Tammsalu finished tied for 15th and Hood tied for 18th.
Freshman Devon Ripley was close behind with a 153 (77, 76) as he placed 21st individually. Fellow freshmen Michael Coppa, Jr. and Justin Armstrong rounded out GBC’s top-five with scores of 159 and 165.
GBC is back in action next Mon., Mar. 29 when the Lightning host the Goldey-Beacom College Invitational at Deerfield Golf Club in Middletown, Del.
