STARKVILLE, Miss. – Five Goldey-Beacom College softball players were honored as Academic All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Graduate student Danielle Hufford, senior Kim Narkiewicz, and sophomores Ashely Paige, Sadie Jones and Jordan Waterloo were chosen based on their grade-point averages submitted for the 2008-09 school year.
Hufford, a utility player for the Lightning last year, featured a .900 fielding percentage in the 28 games she played in, which included 10 starts. A Smyrna, Del. native, she is a business administration major with a concentration in marketing.
Narkiewicz, an outfielder for the squad last season, boasted a 1.000 fielding percentage and a .270 batting percentage. She had 20 hits and 10 runs scored, offensively. From Shamong, N.J., Narkiewicz is an accounting major at GBC.
Paige played and started in 40 games for the Lightning in 2008-09. In 121 at-bats, she had 29 hits, 22 runs scored and 16 RBI's while also drawing 14 walks. She stole 10 bases on 11 attempts as well. The Middletown, Del. native is an accounting major.
Jones, in her freshman season last year, made 15 starts on the mound for the Lightning and went 6-9. In 102.2 innings pitched, she gave up 52 earned runs, for a season ERA of 3.55. Jones is from Milford, Del. and is an accounting major at GBC.
Waterloo played third base for the Lightning in 2008-09 and had a superb .908 fielding percentage. She also contributed 18 hits (including two doubles), 12 runs and eight RBI's in her rookie season. From Waldorf, Md., Waterloo is also an accounting major at GBC.
The Lightning were ranked 40th in the NCAA Division II with a GPA of 3.23.
