On October 15th, the GBC volleyball team took part in the “Dig Pink” program in its conference game against Chestnut Hill to support breast cancer awareness.
“Dig Pink” is sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation and is being held by volleyball programs throughout the country all during the month of October. Through generous donations and a fundraising activity that the volleyball team organized between its second and third games, the team raised over $540.00 that will be going directly to the Side-Out Foundation.
The game brought many fans from the GBC and the outside community, including breast cancer survivors that would not have otherwise been to a game. There were also two representatives from the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition who set up a table to help increase awareness.
This year, the members of the SAAC committee decided to help the team in its fundraising efforts. They sold t-shirts that said “Big or Small, let’s save them all,” and are having the proceeds go to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. In addition, SAAC has decided to donate $350.00, which is half of the cost to make the t-shirts, to the overall proceeds. With this additional donation, Goldey-Beacom College will be writing a check to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition for $1,100.00.
In addition, the men’s and women’s soccer, tennis, golf, softball, and cross country teams wore pink during their games taking place in the week of October 10th-17th.
Through all the efforts by the volleyball team, student-athletes, and the community, GBC will be helping in the fight against breast cancer by a total donation of $1,640.00.
